Why should Engineers spend the time updating their LinkedIn accounts?

I mean, it's only useful when I need to find a job, right?

Well, maybe there's a case to do it regardless.

Engineers over time develop their notoriety and with their experience start to become subject matter experts. They increase their domain authority and your designs and solutions are more respected. This is not the only way this can happen and in this day and age tools such as LinkedIn should be utilized by Engineers.
